1. How can I make a donation?

2. When will I receive my "Thank-you" gift for a recent donation?

We ask that you allow four to eight weeks for delivery. Most gifts are mailed sooner. Please email Membership Services or call 702-799-1010 x 5375 regarding your gift.

3. Why didn't I receive my Vegas PBS Source program guide this month?

Your annual membership may have expired. If you have moved, we may not have your current address. Please email Membership Services or call 702-799-1010 x 5437, and we will gladly update your records.

4. I've recently paid my annual donation. Why did I receive a renewal letter in the mail?

Inside Education

1. How did Inside Education originate? Where did the idea for the show come from?

Inside Education was created by Ray Willis in collaboration with school district officials and members of the school board who felt the district needed a specialized television program as an ongoing vehicle to communicate with the public. A major consideration for establishing the program is the limited amount of time television news dedicates to the coverage of educational topics. Given the school district’s prominence and impact on the community, it was felt a weekly newsmagazine program would be a good vehicle to provide more comprehensive district information to stakeholders.

2. What do you hope to accomplish with the show?

Our main objective is to inform, educate, and provide more in-depth coverage of education topics. Every Clark County resident has an investment in our schools, either as a taxpayer, a parent or a student. Even parents whose children attend private school, senior citizens and those without school-aged children have a vested interest, by virtue of their financial contribution, and the impact education has on enabling students to become self-sufficient citizens later on.

3. Is Inside Education a news program in the same league as the local news stations?

No. Inside Education is a television newsmagazine show. Our program is not on the same level as local news channels. Our approach is to be informational and informative about classroom programs and support operations and functions of the school district. We are not in the same league as the local news at all.

4. How has Inside Education been received by the public since its inception?

The show garners good ratings and a solid viewing audience in all time segments that it airs each week: Tuesdays, 7:30 p.m. on Channel 10; Fridays at 4:30 p.m. on Cox Cable Channel 111; and Sundays at 6 a.m. on Channel 10. For a show specializing strictly on stories about public school level education, Inside Education does quite well. The show succeeds primarily due to its video enriched segments which are purposely designed to engage viewers and heighten interest.

5. What is your background and what do you bring to the table as far as expertise as host of Inside Education?

In a career spanning more than 30 years, I have held numerous positions in education and communications, including: television news director and school district spokesman and was an assistant superintendent in another district.

6. Is Inside Education committed to providing responsible information in the public’s interest?

Absolutely. I would even go so far as to say that we have a responsibility to inform the public about the accomplishments and needs of the public schools and to secure the cooperation and support of the public in meeting those needs. After all, it not just OUR school district. It’s EVERYONE’S school district. We can do no less to ensure that our children receive the best education this community and its citizens can provide.

Programming

1. Are you hearing extra voices, another language, or no audio program at all on your favorite Vegas PBS shows?

Watch this video and learn about the Secondary Audio Program (SAP). SAP is sometimes used to provide services for the visually impaired, or for the non-English language programming. When it's turned on you can not hear your program's normal sound. Watch video.

2. When will you rebroadcast a particular program?

Search our online TV Schedules for future broadcast dates for a particular program.

3. Why don’t you show my favorite old PBS program anymore?

Vegas PBS purchases the broadcast rights for all programs. The “rights” tell us how many times we can broadcast a program within a certain period of time. This is generally four times over a three or four year period, although it could be much shorter or on occasion, longer. At the end of that time period, Vegas PBS is not able legally to broadcast the program. Occasionally programs that have expired will become available again so additional rights can be purchased by Vegas PBS. Sometimes older programs are available for purchase from Shop PBS

4. How can I purchase a video of a show?

A complete listing of videos currently offered through PBS is available at Shop PBS. You can order programs from this site or by calling Shop PBS at 800/531-4PBS. For information on videos for continuing series such as Nature, Mystery! or Frontline, please visit the specific program's website for availability and ordering information.

5. How can I submit an idea for a show or a program offer?

6. Where can I find the website for a certain program?

All national and local programs are listed under Programs A-Z. Many of these programs have a companion website; and all programs have at least basic program information. Just click on the program title in this list.

7. Where can I find a recipe from one of the cooking programs I saw on Vegas PBS?

We often get inquiries for the wonderful recipes featured on the how-to cooking programs that air on Vegas PBS. While we wish we had immediate access to all of them, unfortunately we do not. Vegas PBS has the same access to the recipes as our audience members. While some of the cooking programs offer free access to their recipes via the Internet, others create cookbooks for purchase as a source of generating revenue to help offset their production costs. 1. How may TeacherLine credits be used in Clark County?

TeacherLine credits are graduate-level and have been approved for use for Highly Qualified status, License Renewal, and Salary Advancement.

2. How are these classes free?

Through a grant, the seat fees are paid for currently employed, licensed individuals in the Clark County School District. An “upfront” fee of $130 per class for the graduate credit is reimbursed upon successful completion of the class, through the same grant.
NOTE: Limited amount of grant funding determines the availability of free classes.

3. How long do the classes last?

PBS TeacherLine classes normally run six weeks. A time commitment of five hours a week by the student is typical.

4. What is expected of me each week?

Each week you are required to read through course content and view embedded video clips to gain the knowledge and skills necessary to complete your course Project. You are also required to complete all discussion questions and assignments. Discussion questions help you to process the information that you have read, and help you to integrate that information into the classroom. Consider these questions and post your answers and thoughts to the Discussion Board. All of the required activities will provide the steps necessary for Project completion. The Project is usually due during the last week of the course. All of this may be done from your home computer.

5. What's the difference between "Local" courses and "National" courses?

"Local Courses" - are offered by your Local Station i.e. Vegas PBS. These courses are facilitated by an educator that works within the CCSD. Most of the other learners within the class are CCSD teachers as well.

"National Courses" - are offered by the PBS TeacherLine National Office. The course Facilitator most likely will be located out of state, as well as your fellow classmates. National Course Credits are identical to Local Courses.

6. I am a retired teacher, and/or teacher on leave of absence, do I qualify to take the classes for free?

Grant regulations specify currently employed and working CCSD teachers only may use the PROMO CODE. You may take the class at regular course pricing.

Video Streaming

2. How does it work?

Streaming media technology - video streaming - enables the real time, or on-demand distribution of audio, video and multimedia on the internet. Streaming media is the simultaneous transfer of digital media (video, voice and data) so that it is received as a continuous real-time stream. Streamed data is transmitted by a server application and received and displayed in real-time by client applications such as the Microsoft's Windows Media Player or the QuickTime Player. These applications can start displaying video or playing back audio as soon as enough data has been received and stored in the receiving station’s buffer. A streamed file is simultaneously downloaded and viewed, but leaves behind no physical file on the viewer's computer.

3. What are the Video Streaming benefits?

KLVX Video Streaming service provides educators and students:

- With Video Streaming, videos are always available from any internet-enabled computer.

- Video Streaming content is always current and up-to-date.

- With content accessible from anywhere, lessons are simple to plan from home.

5. Why do I need a Wireless Scan Converter?

A wireless scan converter or a traditional scan converter will allow for a user to display any computer image to a Television display.

*Most computers do not have TV out capability. Check your computer's display information.

6. Why do I need a Universal S-Video /AV / RF System Selector?

The Universal System Selector allows for multiple connections to one TV. It also serves as a adaptor for older TV's that do not have rca connections.
